Féya Kothuis works at the intersection of installation, performance and objects, where she questions the relationship between human and object. Driven by a fascination with damaged objects, she creates situations in which the object can exist outside its given role and beyond linguistic structures, as something autonomous and detached from human logic.

Rearranging conctext and deconstruction of the function forms a central method within her practice. These interventions distance the object from its existing purpose and thereby question our engagement with objects.

By displacing images and actions from everyday situations, a shift forms in which recognition wavers. In her installations, the relationships objects form are estranged from learned assumptions, causing their original meaning to no longer resonate. The work is not intended to deny knowledge, but to make its limits tangible, to physically reveal where our associations begin and fall short.

Performance functions as documentation and offers the possibility of encountering this tension bodily. Within this, the body is approached as an entity that, like the object, can be experienced as having its own materiality.
